FAQs About Dental Implants

Following are some frequently asked questions about dental implants:

How much do dental implants cost?
The cost for dental implants varies and depends, in part, on whether you’ll need a gum graft and/or bone graft to ensure successful placement of the implant. In a free consultation with Dr. O’Leary or Dr. Peppler, you can find out the exact cost. We always try to maximze your dental insurance so that you pay the least amount out-of-pocket. We can also file a predetermination of benefits for you, and we offer financing through Care Credit.

What are the advantages of dental implants?
Dental implants function better than their alternatives , bridges and dentures. With a bridge, you’re forced to have the two teeth next to your missing tooth drilled and prepared for the restoration. If these adjacent teeth are healthy, you’ve just compromised them for no reason. With dentures, implants offer a superior solution to a tray of false teeth glued to your gums – in terms of beauty, security, and functionality. If dentures do prove to be the best answer, dental implants can be used to increase their stability.

Will dental insurance cover the cost of dental implants?
Possibly. In the past, dental insurance companies were reluctant to pay for dental implants, categorizing them as “cosmetic” procedures (and therefore voluntary). While most dental plans covered bridges and flippers, dental implants were rarely covered. In fact, if you were missing teeth before your coverage began, the condition was considered “pre-existing.” Today, thankfully, more dental plans have added coverage for dental implants. For specifics and to avoid surprises, check with your human resources department, carefully study your dental insurance plan, and/or ask an implant dentist in Denver to submit a pre-authorization form to your insurance company.  If you don’t have insurance coverage now, you might be forced to wait a year until benefits for dental implants kick in.

Can implants be used for all types of tooth loss?
Dental implants have been used to replace teeth lost to: congenital defects (i.e. heredity), tooth decay, root canal failure, injury, gum disease, and injury or trauma to the mouth. Dental implants can replace single teeth or multiple teeth.
