Dental Implants Today

Today’s dental implants are superior to those designed twenty years ago, or even ten years ago.

A dental implant today consists of a titanium rod which is placed in the jawbone, to which a crown (for a single tooth loss), bridge (for multiple tooth loss), or dentures are affixed. The process involves dental surgery, which can be performed using local anesthetic or general anesthesia.

Once the dental implant is placed in the jaw bone, it can take 3-6 months to fully integrate with the bone, at which point the permanent restoration is completed. During the healing period, a temporary restoration is inserted, so that there’s no gap between teeth.
